1. Have A Game Plan
Let's be real... Unless you have the discipline of a monk who has been up in the mountains for a year, you will more than likely steal some of your child's Halloween candy or buy a bag the day after Halloween (50% off sales!!!). Plan ahead, eat completely clean and plan to burn a few more calories by planning a workout to compensate for the extra calories consumed. Be sure to factor the extra calories and macronutrients into your daily intake.
2. Purchase Candy You Dislike And Do It last Minute.
Ok, I admit... buying the candy last minute will probably mean all the good candy will be gone from the store shelves and you may have your house "egged" or toilet papered for handing out lousy candy. (Do kids still do that?) I can't tell you how many years I've bought the fun sized candy bars and ended up finishing the bags off before Halloween and had to rush out the day of Halloween to get more anyway! Spare yourself the temptation and buy your candy the afternoon of Halloween. If you have any leftovers, you won't particularly like the candy if you buy your least favourite.... give it to the neighbour's kids November 1st!
3. DO NOT SET UP A CANDY DISH on your desk!
Don't be that person in the office with a candy dish on their desk... DON'T BE A SABOTEUR! Avoid colleague's desks that have the dish as well. One piece leads to two, leads to three...
4 .Do Not Stray From Your Regular Meal Plan
Eating your regular timed, nutrient dense meals will help you from being hungry and end up pillaging the first candy stockpile you can find. If you find you crave some sweet candy, try eating a piece of fruit first. The fiber will help fill you up and hopefully minimize the damage if/when you do give into temptation.
5. Choose the Lesser Of The Evils Choose candy that is lower is fat and calories. Check out my blog... http://optimumfitness1.weebly.com/blog/choosing-the-lesser-of-the-evils-which-h alloween-candy-is-healthier from two weeks ago for some lower calorie, lower fat choices.
6. Go For A Walk - Take The Kids Trick Or Treating
I remember when my daughters were younger and my wife and I used to alternate years to take the girls out. I recall walking miles Halloween night. I used to bring a wagon and pull Alexis, Chelsey and their friends all around the neighbourhood. It was a great way to get some moderate cardio in and pulling them in a wagon would also add resistance.
7. Chill Out! I'm a HUGE candy bar guy!
Candy bars and some of the other candy can be frozen. You may be less tempted when you're bored or have the munchies to eat the sweets if they are frozen. And, if you are like me and will still attack a frozen chocolate bar, you will be more likely to eat several frozen verses a bag sitting at room temperature!
