When performing the leg press or squat, you work primarily the gluteal muscles, quadriceps, hamstrings and core. All the muscles are involved, working simultaneously. However, If you want to specifically target the glutes, focus on pushing the weight through your heels. To more effectively shape and tone the quadriceps (thighs), focus on pushing the weight through the balls of the feet. Your quadriceps will generate more of the muscular contraction required to move the weight. For variety, try a couple of sets pushing the weight through the heels and a couple pushing through the balls of the feet!
