Set A Training Schedule
Just like the Red Sox, we need to plan our spring training sessions in order to achieve success and ensure we are ready for the big game. Plan out training sessions and what you will work on during each session. If you plan to workout out 3-4 times each week, write the times in your planner, phone, desk calendar and anywhere else you will see them as a constant reminder. If you plan to do 30 minutes of bike or running, take a spin class and/or do strength training, write it on the schedule as well! Set realistic goals. If you work crazy hours and you're not a morning person, scheduling five workouts at 5am is not realistic and will set you up for failure.
Train As A Team
Join a class such as Zumba, spin, Kickfit, etc. Find a workout partner or hire a personal trainer. Find someone who has the same goals and fitness level as you who is just as devoted to achieving their goals. You are more likely to be consistent with your spring training program if you have someone waiting for you to show up. You can also learn new skills and methods for achieving your goals. Set up a consistent time and place for your training program. Accountability is key for successful spring training.
Make A New Playlist
Anyone who has taken my Kickfit class or who has worked out with me knows I always have music and change it up frequently. It has been said, "music can calm the savage beast." It can also fire up the savage beast! Get some fresh, upbeat music to get your heart pumping and adrenalin flowing!
Include Strength Training
Cardio is great for burning calories and improving your heart and circulatory system. However, strength training will shape and tone your body as well as increase muscle mass. Muscle is living tissue which requires nutrients to exist. That means it will elevate your resting metabolism which in turn means you'll not only look better but also burn more calories even when your not training!
Sign up For An Event
Signing up for a race, tuff mudder or a reunion etc. will give you a specific date to train for. Just like spring training for baseball, there will be an "opening day." A day for which all the spring training has been geared toward. This will have you ready for the season... summer season that is! You will not only work harder and have more focus, but will have a sense of accomplishment
and look and feel great for the summer season!
