To obtain the results you desire, you have to put the time and work in! I'm sorry but it's just that simple! As you put the time and effort in, you will notice results, and so will your friends and family! This will motivate you to continue making progress. If you are SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED, take charge and change your circumstances and fitness. Make this year the beginning of a healthy lifestyle!
Below are a few ideas to help you stop blowing off the gym/workouts...
1. Find a gym close to home or work.
"It's cold, roads may are slippery, don't want to drive all the way to the gym..." There are literally dozens of gyms opening every year it seems. Find a gym close to your home or work that is open hours that fit your schedule. Make sure to have your gym bag packed the night before!
2. Workout in the morning.
"I'm tired, worked all day, hafta take the kids to sports/after school activities, been a long day..." There are many excuses for not working out in the evening. "The gym is too busy, I have to be home for the kids, work ran late etc." By hitting the gym early, before work or school, you will set the tone for the rest of the day, have more energy for the day and not have to think about going later in the evening.
3. Book an appointment!
Put it in your phone, planner, computer... Block off the time for YOURSELF to workout. By blocking it out of your daily events, you will more likely keep your resolution. Book an appointment with a personal trainer. They can write up a fun and effective workout for you that will help get the results you are looking for. Book a few sessions with a trainer for more effective results and help you to get to the gym consistently. I have had many clients tell me the only reason they came to the gym was because they had an appointment with me or knew I would be looking for them to show up to do their cardio. I have NEVER had anyone tell me they were unhappy they made it to their appointment! You will be glad you kept your appointment!
4. Create a sense of urgency.
Find a reason to be consistent. Do you need to lose weight for a vacation, wedding or event? Do you have a medical issue such as high blood pressure or diabetes etc? Are you over weight and fear becoming obese? Whatever the reason, set a date and write it down, post it on the fridge, mirror etc. Find those pants that used to fit and put them in the front of your closet so you have to look at them every day. Find a picture of yourself where you liked how you looked and post it on the fridge, your office etc. By always having the reason posted you will be reminded, realize things won't get better unless YOU take action and YOU make the effort to get to the gym and workout.
5. Find someone to be accountable to. Finding a workout partner who will meet you at the gym is very effective. If you can't find a friend or family member to workout with you, ask someone you trust to ask you if you went to the gym today, what you ate etc. Accountability is one of the biggest keys for success. Whether it's to reach your health and fitness goals or anything else in life, accountability keeps you honest!
If you miss a workout, get into the gym and make it up another day! I've seen time and time again, one missed workout turns to two. Two missed workouts turn to three. We all have circumstances that prevent us from getting to the gym. It's how we rebound back that will determine your success. Make this the year you lose the body fat, get the body you want and become healthy!
